Importing Data using the Sam360 Web Portal
The Sam360 Web Portal supports the importing of certain inventory and licensing data. Data that can be imported includes…
- VMware Hypervisor host and virtual machine data
- Hyper-V Hypervisor host and virtual machine data
- System Center (SCCM) inventory data
- Office 365 general license data and user license data
- Sam360 device and software inventory data (Sam360 s3tools)
- Sam360 license data
- Device Data (CSV)
- Inventory Data (CSV)
Inventory and licensing data can be imported into the Sam360 platform via the ‘Import Data’ option in the Sam360 Web Portal. To import data…
- Log in to the Sam360 web portal.
- Click the ‘Settings’ button on the top right of the screen.
- Click on the ‘Import Data’ menu option on the left menu bar.
- Select the type of data being imported…
- VMware
- Hyper-V
- Inventory (Sam360)
- Office365
- License Details (Sam360)
- SCCM Inventory
- Device Data
- Inventory Data
- Click the ‘Choose file’ button to browse for the file to be imported. Select the file and click ‘Open’ Note: Only one file can be imported at a time and depending on the type of data being imported that file must contain the import data in a particular format (see below for the list of data import file formats)
- Click the ‘Upload’ button.
- The data will now be imported and queued for processing. Data is generally processed within a minute of importing, although this can be longer if the platform is busy.
Data Import File Formats
As previously mentioned only one file can be imported at a time and depending on the data type selected that file must be of a certain format. The following is a list of data import types and the file import formats supported for each type…
- VMware – VMware data can be imported in a single CSV file or as a zipped archive (.zip file) containing multiple CSV files. The CSV file format for uploading VMware data can be downloaded from here. A free to use Sam360 SAM Gold Toolkit PowerShell script which extracts virtual machine and host data from a VMware Hypervisor in the correct CSV file format can be downloaded from here.
- Hyper-V – Hyper-V data can be imported in a single CSV file or as a zipped archive (.zip file) containing multiple CSV files. The CSV file format for uploading Hyper-V data can be downloaded from here. A free to use Sam360 SAM Gold Toolkit PowerShell script which extracts virtual machine and host data from a Hyper-V Hypervisor in the correct CSV file format can be downloaded from here.
- Inventory (Sam360) – Sam360 inventory data can be imported in a single Sam360 inventory data file (.ds) or as a zipped archive (.zip file) containing multiple Sam360 inventory data files. Sam360 inventory data files can be generated in a number of ways such as using the command line tool s3tools.exe to manually scan a device for hardware and software inventory. For more information on gathering inventory using s3tools.exe go here.
- Office 365 – Office 365 data can be imported as a single CSV file containing either the Office 365 general license details or the Office 365 user license details, or it can be imported as a single zipped archive (.zip file) containing one or both of these CSV files. The CSV file format used for both the Office 365 general license details and the user license details files can be downloaded from here. A free to use Sam360 SAM Gold Toolkit PowerShell script to extract both of these files from Office 365 can be downloaded from here.
- License Details (Sam360) – Sam360 license data can be imported in a single CSV file containing various software license details. The CSV file format for importing license data can be downloaded from here. For a detailed description of the fields contained in a Sam360 license data file click here.
- SCCM Inventory – SCCM data must be imported as a single zipped archive (.zip file) containing two files, one containing the SCCM device data and the other containing the SCCM inventory data. Both files must be in CSV format and examples of each files content can be downloaded from here. A free to use Sam360 SAM Gold Toolkit PowerShell script to extract both of these files in the correct CSV format from an SCCM server can be downloaded from here.
- Device Data – Device data is imported using a CSV file containing specific hardware inventory fields. The CSV file format to import device data can be downloaded from here. If you want to import software inventory as well as hardware inventory you need to fill out an Inventory Data CSV file (see below).
- Inventory Data – Inventory data is imported using a CSV file containing specific software inventory fields. The CSV file format to import software inventory data can be downloaded from here. Before you can import software inventory data for a device, the device must already exist in the Sam360 system. In this situation the likely way to import the device data so it already exists in the Sam360 system is to use the Device Data import option (see above).
